“We Apply for Jobs, and HR Never Gets Back.” Let’s Flip the Script.
“We apply for jobs, and the HR never gets back.”
I’ve heard this more times than I can count. It’s usually said half-jokingly, sometimes sarcastically, but always with frustration.
But let’s pause and flip the script for a moment.
As someone working in recruitment, I’ve seen the other side. Whenever I post a job opening, the applications pour in. Many profiles look promising, and we start shortlisting. But when we reach out to candidates?
-
Calls go unanswered.
-
LinkedIn messages are left on read.
-
Emails remain unopened.
It’s understandable; the flood of spam and promotional calls makes people cautious. But if you’ve applied for a role, staying reachable is crucial. One missed call or ignored message could mean the difference between landing an opportunity and losing it.
What’s even more disheartening is when, after days of coordination and follow-ups, a candidate suddenly says:
“Sorry ma’am, I won’t be available” — on the very day of the interview.
This isn’t just frustrating for recruiters; it closes doors for the candidate too. Opportunities slip away, not because they weren’t qualified, but because they weren’t responsive.
A Two-Way Responsibility
Yes, job seekers often face radio silence from companies. But fairness works both ways. If you’ve applied, show up, stay responsive, and respect the process. It reflects your professionalism more than you realize.
At the same time, stay smart. Always remember, a genuine recruiter will never:
-
Ask for money or an upfront payment.
-
Avoid sharing company details.
-
Pressure you aggressively into a role.
-
Communicate only through personal emails or sketchy DMs.
Be cautious, but also be open.
Final Thought
Opportunities don’t always come with a loud knock. Sometimes they arrive quietly — as a phone call, a LinkedIn message, or an email.
Don’t let mistrust or negligence be the reason you miss out.
Chances don’t just come to those who wait, they come to those who respond.
